"This is a '97 ES-10 with 18 eight-volt Trojans with remote fillers from Flow-Rite Controls. I used a Curtis controller, which is fan-cooled inside an aluminum plenum underneath your control box.
The truck still has airbags, ABS and speedo/odometer.

It hits 70mph with relative ease on the highway and is a pleasure to drive with your power steering and brake setups. We haven't pushed the miles-between-charge yet, but I've gone 16 miles with lots of traffic lights, with good battery power still left.

I put clear Lexan boxes around the batteries to keep fingers out and keep the batteries clean. It seems to insulate them reasonably well for our climate in FL."

Thanks again,

Todd

Joanna Zilsel and her converted S10

"It’s been just over one month since my uncle and I bought the 1993 Chevy S10 pick up, and we both love driving it! Living on the Sunshine Coast, we have many hills to negotiate, and the truck’s performance on them (and in general) surpasses our expectations. We estimate our range to be between 60 and 80 km--depending on hills and load--and we easily cruise at a comfortable 80 kmph on the highway (less going up a steep grade). Plugging in at the end of the day is a piece of cake. We just purchased a clamp-on amp meter to determine how much power we use when re-charging: it’s still too early to have an exact figure, but it looks like it will be less than 2 cents/kilometer. And I can’t tell you how great it feels to drive right past those gas stations! The truck may not be sleek or ‘sexy’, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love the fact that it’s a conversion, and feel proud to be able to show people that affordable, zero emissions vehicles can be on the road today. There is only down side to driving the truck: errands that would normally take me 20 minutes often end up taking several hours due to the crowds that invariably gather around, wanting to see under the hood and peppering me with enthusiastic questions!"
